Botox® is a neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. FDA, Health Canada approved medication for the treatment of severe primary axillary hyperhidrosis as of August 31st, 2001.
A starch iodine test is preformed prior to treatment to ensure correct injection points and ideal results.
All procedure are performed by Registered Nurses.
Hyperhidrosis also known as excessive sweating, is a disorder of the eccrine sweat glands that can really impact an individuals life.
Some common areas where overactive sweat glands can occur are : palms of your hands, soles of your feet, axillary region, face/head/neck, groin and torso.
There are two different types of excessive sweating: primary and secondary hyperhidrosis.
Primary: excessive sweating occurs in one area such as the underarms. Usually primary hyperhidrosis is inherited from a family member who has the disorder.
Secondary: Sweating occurs across the body and not one area.
Not to worry, Botox® (onabotulinumtoxinA) is a prescription medication which blocks the secretion of the chemical known as acetylcholine that triggers sweat glands.
